9 million people just watched Jake Bird miss an easy putt. What they
won't see is a frustrated caddy, an angry agent and a disappointed girlfriend who knows that a pro golfer's sex drive is only
as strong as his last shot. SLICE - a comedy series about the people who take the world's funniest game seriously.
SLICE is a scripted comedy about an
anxious professional golfer. While golf provides a frame for the action, SLICE isn't ABOUT golf.
Golf requires nerves of steel, something Jake Bird sorely lacks. It's a daily
challenge just to keep his professional career afloat and this insecurity affects everything else in his life.
Each episode has a central theme supported by at least a couple of crises. Sponsorship deals, golf fashion, charity
events, psychology, groupies. These things are part of Jake's world, whether he likes it or not. And
he doesn't.
Licensed tour footage will be used and real tour players are cast as themselves.
Each episode is 30 minutes.
Characters:
Jake Bird: Twelve years ago Jake became a professional golfer.
Eleven years ago he won his first major tournament. Instant fame and fleeting fortune came as part of the package, and Jake
quickly got used to it.
More than a decade has passed and Jake hasn't won another tournament. Not
even a sniff. Sure, he still makes the cut at some events and still enjoys the perks of being a professional athlete, but
the winless streak gnaws. Jake is still a celebrity, but his star status has faded.
Bonz Sakamoto: Jake's Japanese caddy. They've been together
since Jake won his only tournament.
Callie: Jake's super-successful agent. She will do anything
to get Jake a deal, whether he wants it or not.
Steph Bethdale: Jake's long-term, live-in girlfriend. She lives
a hectic professional life as the host of a home-decorating show. Whenever Jake needs help, she can be counted on to be too
busy.
